If you’re a Business Analyst with experience in resolving system issues and providing design solutions to optimise business performance, then this is a great opportunity for you to develop your technical skills whilst working for an industry leader.

What’s the role?

The Business Analyst role will work in the Shell Energy Australia Trading and Risk Management business, as well as the QGC Gas Optimisation business. You will be a member of the Shell Energy Australia Business Analyst team reporting to the Business Process Lead. You are expected to help the front office to enter complex deals into Endur (the trading and risk management system).

Some of the key deliverables and responsibilities of this role are:


Provide SEAU users, and associated teams help with systems and data related queries and requests.
Be the first point of contact for systems issues, resolving them where possible, and working with the IT team on the more complex problems.
Work with the business users to understand new and changed requirements.
Design solutions that meet requirements and fit nicely into the existing systems landscape.
Write technical and functional specifications for the IT team (located both on and offshore).
Work with IT to ensure that they understand specifications, the overall design, and the original requirement.
Be flexible and take on board constructive criticism, adapting designs and specifications where they need it.
Test new and changed functionality ensuring that it meets the specification, design, and requirement.
Help users to test new and changed functionality.
Work with IT to get new and changed functionality released into the production environment.

What we need from you

If you are a developer who wants to move into the BA space, we are looking for:


A good understanding of the development lifecycle.
An understanding of the Procedural, and Object-Oriented paradigms.
The ability to write complex SQL select statements.
A familiarity with an SQL development environment suitable for Oracle databases such as Toad, SQL Developer, etc.
Demonstrated experience with Java, ideally using the Eclipse IDE. Alternatively, a similar level of experience with C, or C will also be looked at.
The ability to understand and design XML.
Experience in a trading and risk management business would be an advantage.


If you are a BA, we are looking for:


Demonstrated experience as a business analyst.
A person who can listen to users and derive their requirements.
The ability to write clear (and concise) functional and technical specifications.
Experience in a trading and risk management business.
An interest in, and basic understanding of the development lifecycle.
A basic understanding of the Procedural, and Object-Oriented paradigms.
Someone who can read and understand simple code.
The ability to write simple SQL select statements.


The successful candidate must have a strong desire to deliver, good communication skills, and be an analytical thinker.

In addition, the successful candidate must have a keen desire to learn about the gas and power trading businesses from Front through to Back Office.
